
Rock Tumbling Petrified Wood – Process & Techniques
This is one in a series of Rock Tumbling “How-To” videos that I have been posting on YouTube. This video features me tumbling Petrified Wood! This is a stone that was once living wood and has crystalized over time. Petrified wood comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns and is fascinating to discover all the different varieties in your specific batch. Petrified Wood is Mohs hardness 7, but can also include some softer samples, so some stones may take a high shone while others remain dull. You will need to have some patience during the course stage and may have to “split” the batch when some of the softer pieces are ready for Medium grit faster than others – Petrified Wood is an Beginner to Intermediate level project.
