Rotary Rock Tumbling Blue Aventurine – Process & Techniques

This is one in a series of Rock Tumbling “How-To” videos that I have been posting on YouTube. This video features me tumbling Blue Aventurine! Blue Aventurine is a light blue colored stone that is part of the Aventurine and Quartz families. The distinguishing factor between Aventurine and Quartz is the inlclusions of mica in Aventurine that give it a sparkly, shimmery appearance. The mica in the Aventurine can make tumbling it more tricky. The mica is much softer than the Quartz and may undercut on the surface leaving micro-pits that prevent Aventurine from getting a good shine – this all depends on the amount of mica in your rough. Therefore, Tumbling Blue Aventurine is an Intermediate level project.
