Sunstone – (Solar Plexus Chakra) – (Zodiac of Libra & Leo)

This stone brings me back home to Oregon.  There are huge Sunstone deposits in Oregon, so it is prevalent in that State and I held alot of it growing up.  There’s an energy to this stone that wakes me up just like a cup of coffee. The sparkly, bright orange crystal radiates just like the sun it was named for.  I reach for this stone if I’m feeling sleepy or unmotivated, but need to be productive. The Science of Sunstone

Sunstone ia also known as oligoclase, heliolite or “aventurescent feldspar”. It has flashy inclusions caused by either Copper, Geothite or Hematite in the stone.

Historical Significance of Sunstone

Sunstone used to represent the Sun God in ancient Greece, and was used by Canadian Indians on their medicine wheels to connect with the spirit of the Sun.  Sunstone has also historically been used as a stone to enhance luck and prosperity.

Metaphysical Attributes of Sunstone 

There are so many fantastic benefits to working with Sunstone.  First, it functions well for chakra health.  The Sunstone spiritual properties help to clear, balance and energize the chakras.  It helps everything work in harmony.  Sunstone also helps you to identify and release any energetic attachments you may have. If you are trying to cut-ties emotionally or energetically with someone, or a situation, Sunstone will help to severe those connections.

Maybe because Sunstone shines brightly like a shiny gold coin, it is supposed to help increase luck, prosperity and abundance in one’s life. If you’re trying to welcome in new financial possibilities, or hoping for a good outcome from a life situation, carrying Sunstone will boost your luck.  This is especially beneficial when your are trying to find a job!

Physical Healing Benefits of Sunstone

Sunstone is the mood lifter.  It is said to help lift depression and be particularly effective for dissipating seasonal affective disorder.  In Oregon and Washington, this is a pretty common ailment, so the extra abundance of the Sunstone deposits provides ample stones for SAD relief.  If you have a difficult time waking in the morning, keep a Sunstone near your bed that you can hold after your alarm has gone off to help give you that extra energy to get out of bed. Finally, Sunstone is said to relieve sore throats.

Sunstone Mantra Practice

Sit in a seated meditation position, holding the Sunstone in your less dominant hand to receive its energy.  Focus on feeling the support of the cushion or floor beneath you. You are grounded and supported by the Earth’s energies.  Imagine a Great  Sun above your head shining brightly onto you, and feel the warmth of the strong, bright rays envelope you.  Repeat these words.  “I am strong, confident and blessed.” Alternately, hold a Sunstone mala and chant this mantra 108 times.
